But we call it a “traveler” because the routing and checks travel with the lot — a passport for parts. If you’re still paper-based, try a one-week pilot where each op scans a QR on the traveler to pull the latest WI and log time/defects in the MES. For low-mix shops paper can still win, but has anyone measured route errors or rework before vs. after going digital?

We still use “traveler” even on eTR because it’s the genealogy thread tying lot, certs, tool IDs, and deviations in one place. Quick win: print the router/BOM rev and effective date on the header and add a QR to the live spec so wrong‑rev runs get caught at op 10 — like a shipping label with a memory.
