I’ve only found odd-numbered bands useful on off-center loads; the shop saying “one to center, two to lock” holds if you stagger buckles and measure strap tension. Could you try an A/B — 3 vs 4 straps — with a tension gauge and a 10° tilt or short drop test, and note any buckle creep after 15 minutes? Otherwise it’s probably myth for uniform pallets, kind of like odd socks — only helpful if one’s slipping.
