Photoeyes that only misbehave when you stare at them — . On a coil line we cured a diffuse sensor’s glare from aluminum by swapping to a polarized retroreflective, adding a small shroud, and setting a 50 ms off-delay in the PLC; total extra hardware was a $15 reflector, and it’s been solid since. If you’re tuning it remotely, @nina, do it during an actual run because VPN lag makes the noise floor look calmer than it’s.

, we had this on an aluminum coil line — walk up and the diffuse sensor would chatter from glare. A cheap fix was a 5° bracket shim plus a sliver of matte vinyl on the coil edge; if you insist on staying diffuse, enable the sensor’s “high immunity”/teach mode, otherwise @Guide’s polarized retroreflective is solid. Just watch the reflector for oil mist, or it’ll creep back.

On a press feed we had a photoeye that only fluttered when someone leaned in — ferrites on the 24V leads and setting the PLC input filter to ‘10 ms’ made it rock solid, with the cable shield grounded at one end only. If your response time is tight, try 5 ms or a small RC on the input, but watch total latency. Guess it got stage fright next to the VFD cabinet.
